Overview The Schoolhouse environment is small by design, but our progressive approach to education integrates globally researched based methods and philosophies.
Each day in The Schoolhouse’s full day preschool program young learners, ages one to four, are offered a wide variety of materials to cultivate their curiosity, and challenge their thinking, while also fulfilling their desire to play! We believe that young learners can develop best intellectually, socially and emotionally in environments where the teachers, materials, family and community work in harmony to support their innate quest to learn. Our engaging learning experiences are created to offer opportunities that cultivate the intimacy of learning in a small group, the unity of collaborating in a large group and the fulfillment of exploring independently. The many dimensions to our inquiry-based approach guide our development of curriculum and learning milestones. Our primary goal is to integrate into projects and investigations topics in which the young learners have shown interest. These topics may result in short or even long-term studies. The Schoolhouse is inspired by the works of Howard Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences theory, the philosophical approach of Reggio Emilia and the methods of Montessori. |
